  • Often when an athlete wants to get faster they will do a bunch of complicated drills that don’t necessarily go together.

  • They’ll throw on some bands around their ankles, put a parachute on their backs and focus on moving their feet as fast as possible without covering much distance.

  • Yeah... I’ve witnessed this more than once.

    You may be more conditioned but that conditioning isn’t going to fully translate to in-game conditioning.

    You’re probably getting slower or you’re staying the same.

    Yet most of the ‘speed work’ that coaches do is actually just conditioning that may help players get tougher and get in game condition…but it’s not going to make them even a half step faster..

So many athletes need to feel safe and not invest the time or money into training. They try on their own and try on their own time after time after time. But the problem with that thinking is... nothing will ever change. The crazy thing is that almost every athlete we talk to thinks this way.

I was listening to an athlete talk about working on their speed and some of the things they had done in the past. Things like 110’s, tons of hill sprints with little rest, just sprinting and running on treadmills.

Some of these things are good in moderation but if this is what your speed training is then you’re not going to actually get faster.

You may be more conditioned but that conditioning isn’t going to fully translate to in-game conditioning.

You’re probably getting slower or you’re staying the same

But the small few who take action see a huge improvement in their athleticism.

They not only see change.

But their coaches, parents and teammates see a massive change as a byproduct of the effort they put in.
